Part of our celebration of International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

“Through the glass ceiling to the stars”, SPACEWOMAN celebrates Eileen Collins, the first woman to pilot and command a spacecraft for NASA, paving the way for the next generation of female space explorers.

An average student in average small-town America, Eileen’s secret dream was to be a pilot and astronaut. One of the first class of women to earn pilot’s wings in the US military, she went on to instruct then test pilot with her aim of selection for NASA’s astronaut program. Proving herself in a man’s world, she inspired thousands as NASA’s first female space shuttle pilot, and later the first female space commander on board Discovery. SPACEWOMAN tells Eileen’s story of space shuttle launches, a historic docking with MIR, and one of the most perilous and important missions in the history of space travel, alongside that of family and motherhood.

We are proud to be the first (and only) location in Scotland to screen this documentary.
